NEW REQUIREMENTS WILL BETTER SERVE CUSTOMERS IN NEED OF ASSISTANCE
Grays Harbor PUD has revised the income eligibility requirements for its Senior and Disabled Discount Program to ensure those customers most in need of assistance continue to be eligible for the program.
The Senior and Disabled Discount program provides up to a 35% discount to Senior and Disabled Grays Harbor PUD customers based on their total household income. Previously, the maximum household income eligible for the program was $24,000. That has increased to $29,000 under the revised requirements that are now linked to current poverty level figures. Each year, the household income to qualify for the maximum discount will adjust to 125% of the federal government’s poverty level figure to keep pace with changes in the economy. In addition, the income levels that determine the percentage of the discount will be adjusted each year based on poverty guidelines. The new income eligibility requirements take effect January 1, 2009.
“The changes mean low income Senior and Disabled customers who need assistance will receive it even as the economy and the definition of ‘low income’ changes over time,” said Jim Eddy, PUD Commission President. “This was in response to a customer’s comment and we are pleased to be able to make a change that will better serve customers in need of assistance.”
